A video made in fond memory of the British actor Dinah Sheridan (December 17, 1920-November 25, 2012), which especially commemorates her role as the warm and understanding mother, coping with unbearable trauma for her and her family, in the children's film classic THE RAILWAY CHILDREN (Lionel Jeffries, 1970).
The video uses excerpts from Bracha L. Ettinger's essay "(M)Other Re-spect: Maternal Subjectivity, the Ready-made mother-monster and The Ethics of Respecting", STUDIES IN THE MATERNAL, 2 (1) 2010. Online at: mamsie.bbk.ac.uk/back_issues/issue_three/mother_respect.html.
This video will be discussed at a free-to-attend event in London on December 3: "The Use of an Illusion? Childhood Cinephilia, Object Relations and Videographic Film Studies". Details here: events.sas.ac.uk/ies/events/view/13234
