Kevin was supported by Choice Support to volunteer as a Games Maker at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games. He tells us about his experience of the games and what it is like to live with a disability and get the support he needs from Choice Support. Find out more at: choicesupport.org.uk/

Choice Support believes that every single person has their own life to lead, a life that is right for them. Choice Support helps people to work out for themselves the right thing to do.

Traditionally services for disabled and disadvantaged people have focused on the things other people think are important or on what’s wrong with a person. This means we often know a lot about what the person cannot do, but little about the person’s gifts, abilities and dreams for the future. Choice Support focuses on really getting to know the person and supporting them to lead the life they want to live.

About Choice Support

Choice Support is a pioneering social care charity providing support services for disabled and disadvantaged people. We were formed in London in 1984 to help people with learning disabilities have better lives, and now provide services throughout much of England to people with learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs, complex health needs, physical disabilities and homeless people.

We are a secure, stable and creative organisation, with well trained, supported and supervised staff. As a charity we direct all of our resources toward improving our support. Increasingly we look to people using our services to lead and inform what we do.

What we do

Choice Support offers a wide range of support services across the country including:

• supported living
• outreach
• shared lives
• positive behavioural support.
Local authorities fund some of the services we provide through people’s own budgets. Others are funded privately. Whatever type of service we provide, and however it is funded, our aim is to enable all the people we support to have full, healthy and meaningful lives. This includes housing, employment and relationships – a life like any other.
