Thank you for joining me as we take a brief look across the 1st Supervisorial
District at some of our accomplishments in 2012. Many of these achievements are
the culmination of years of preparation and commitment from residents ….. civic,
service, business and academic partners who have joined with Riverside County
to bring new opportunities, services and dimensions to the diverse communities
that make up the 1st Supervisorial District.
In 2012, Riverside County achieved hard-fought spending reforms that will save
hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars in coming years, allowing us to preserve
jobs, enhance county services and make investments into infrastructure that will
support new businesses and improve our economic landscape for decades to
We saw a hasty and happy resolution to the bitter seven-year fight over the
proposed Liberty Quarry ….. with long-term protections for one of Riverside
County’s most pristine and sensitive ecological systems.
We broke ground on the widening of the 91 Freeway, we have begun expansions
of the Clinton-Keith Interchange, Van Buren Interchange and advanced road
projects that will ease the burdens on commuters and businesses. It has been a
great year, filled with momentum and milestones. Here are a few:
In closing, I am honored to have served the residents of the 1st Supervisorial
District for the past 20 years. I am grateful that the seeds of dreams we planted
yesterday are flourishing ….. I am thankful for the 1st District residents who have
invested their time and energy into improving their communities and quality of
life. And, I am grateful to the county staffers, my friends, my colleagues, and my
family – especially my wife Mary – for standing by me as we – together – forged a
brighter future for Riverside County’s 1st Supervisorial District.
