Thousands of kids die annually from an undetected heart condition that put them at risk for Sudden Cardiac Arrest. San Diego lost nearly half a dozen teens last year to SCA—more than those lost to drunk driving. These kids could've been saved with a simple EKG. And athletes are at higher risk. In partnership with local schools, the Eric Paredes Save a Life Foundation and a volunteer medical team of cardiologists and health professionals offers free cardiac screenings to teens. In memory of Eric Paredes, a freshman athlete who died from SCA in 2009, the EP Save A Life Foundation has screened more than 10,000 teens and found 1 in 100 at risk for SCA—many requiring life-saving corrective surgeries. This PSA urges parents of teens to take a moment to prevent a tragedy that could be a heartbeat away and screen their teen.
