Our computers know us more intimately than lovers — but this is a lopsided relationship. Behind their user-friendly facades, what do we know of the operating systems that drive our daily fix? What happens inside geek space?
This isn't a performance about identity; it’s about identity theft. In the age of Facebook, Twitter and Wikileaks, most men and women grapple with issues of online privacy and exposure without understanding how the online world is put together. _Power geek_ figures tend to be male: think Mark Zuckerburg, Julian Assange, and Kevin Mitnick. Networked presences, dancing, file searching and parsing are the main scenes of action. The story is weaveed via performative algorithms and first person narrative touching on subjects from dark matter to rogue bots.
What news might a female hacker bring back for the rest of us?
'I first encountered the work of Tasmanian performance artist and media researcher Nancy Mauro-Flude during The Art of Hacking exhibition opening at the Netherlands Media Art Institute (NIMk) on September 9, 2011. Mauro-Flude’s Error_in_Time is a poetic coding performance featuring sister0…inspired questions on the radicalism and embodiment of FreeSoftware and free spirits.'
