Have driven past this segment of the Dakota Hogback for 30 years, and been wanting to fly over it for almost as long. Finally got around to it. Can see the remains of a large quarry operation dating from early 1900's. Sandstone, limestone and clay were the most common products, but probably some other stuff.
The historic entrance to original Leyden coal mine is visible at the south end of the hogback once called Shaddock's Point. The Leyden mine was later expanded to to the east/south/north with 3 vertical shafts and over 50 miles of tunnels. It produced 6 million tons of coal for Denver over its nearly 50 years of operation.
Filmed with Hero2 and Hero HD. (Left my Hero3 at home). Had to do a lot of color correction
to get em close to each other. Had a little extra vibration I couldn't fix in the field, but conditions
were good, so I flew anyway. Lightly stabilized in post.
