This film started as a documentation of the making of one of my drawings. The drawing is from a series entitled "Notes From the Edge of the World," inspired by a month spent in the remote northwestern coast of Ireland in July 2007. The film evolved as a tribute to my wife, Mary, after she passed away and as a commemoration of our last trip as a family together. My son Jacob had a movie camera there in Ireland and all of the "non-drawing" footage was taken by him. His footage, interwoven with the drawing's progress, became important as it reflected and revealed some of the imagery in Ireland that generated this series of drawings. The beautiful music is a song called "The Longest Night" by The Tin Hat Trio. The voice you hear is that of Mary.... the hand too.
