Without snowmen, frost, carolers, sleighs and the need for steaming mugs of gluhwein, Christmas in California defines it’s holiday season in a different way. The disconnect between all things “winter” forces us to turn inward, assessing what the season really means. Reflections of a year gone by are meditated upon while a sunbeam bakes our bodies, lying by the pool. Homes lit up with Christmas lights pale in comparison to the glorious beach-side sunsets. A plastic nativity scene lies sun-bleached on a lawn of dried yellow grass. This is the holiday spirit that Angela and I have grown familiar with. Enjoy the season as we see it.
