This is a prototype test experiment for a projection installation I'm working on! (It's small, maybe two feet wide.)
This project began in November 2012 under the working title "Girls' Room" and with the guidance of Mat Rappaport at Columbia College Chicago.
The images are taken from a single projector, using footage manipulated with the program Isadora, and then fragmented and reflected with a series of mirrors in what will be a series of assemblage boxes. The footage is thematically linked to aggressive physical actions found in girl's boarding schools and 19th-century hysteria treatments. The content of this project is, among other things, an investigation of the physicality of female adolescence and young adulthood, and the juxtaposition of the girlish and the traumatic. The form of this project is part of my ongoing interest in making digital content emotionally and physically intimate.
