This short film is compiled from footage I shot around the cruise ship ms Zaandam when my wife and I sailed on her in June/July 2008. I intended it as an introduction to cruising from a lay person's perspective and is a companion piece of my other Alaskan films already posted here on Vimeo.
It is interesting now that I am home to look at the way footage is collected when on holidays verses how easy it is to use it when it comes to editing. If you haven't done it before, my big tips are (a) Hold the camera Still, (b) shoot enough of each subject to allow for editing, and (c) if you have to snap shoot, try and not wave the camera all over the place at least :-) Despite committing all of these sins with my source footage, hopefully what you see here hides them fairly well.
I must also recommend highly the use of Jamendo as a source of suitable music with appropriate copyright release clauses available through "Creative Commons". For home video producers, such a resource is invaluable in allowing you to make your videos more interesting to the audience.
This was shot with a Sony HDR-HC9 PAL HDV camera and edited with Adobe Premiere CS3. A very small number of shots have been sourced from NTSC SD footage which has been up-converted (since they dont let passengers into the engine room :-)
