This is one of my last maya plugins , and is part of a bulk I will show in a near future ,some of the stuff will be even open source . The deformer is a collision and bulge deformer . You need to provide collider mesh , the computation is not so light so there are some options to make the computing faster, like using the bounding box of the collider geometry .
That means is preferable collide with a volume rather then a flat shape like a plane but the plugin is designed to work with those kind of shapes too. There are a series of attribute to tweak the bulge shape , influence and so on.
It s also possible to paint the influence of the bulge .
