Wes Ely, MD, MPH, an internationally known pulmonary and critical care physician, and professor of medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, here presents his personal thoughts and experiences in caring for patients at the end of life. Wes presented this talk at the national meeting of the Catholic Medical Association in Saint Paul, Minnesota in September 2012. Here he presents to a mixed audience of medical students from various faith backgrounds, including those of no faith. Nevertheless his deep Catholic understanding of the sacredness of human life underpins his presentation and his practice.
