Simultaneous has manifested as a complex and entertaining video puzzle, combined from musical composition, static images, video and animation. It maintains the assertion that all things are linked or rather linkable depending on the way intellectual connections allow it. It is a tool with which to approach notions of a perpetually fluid symbiosis between systems of comprehension and the results of perceivable reality. The work was inspired by the thought experiment, Schrödingers cat, seminal to quantum philosophy, in which we are encouraged to imagine the potentials of simultaneous realities. The aesthetic impetus of Nikkita Horne’s work is a focus on the perceptive phenomena pareidolia, or the trait of recognizing visual figures and discernible audio in abstract combinations of line, rhythm, tone, and perceived intonation. The potential to interpret relationships between meanings and their origins encourages people to actively seek pictures and legible sounds from abstracted stimuli. Horne aims to accentuate paredolia as a method of tangibly expressing ultra- complex networks and systems sometimes perceived as coincidence. From position’s of artistic inquiry both practice based and with literary research, she inquires the cognitive benefits of searching for realism in abstraction.
