Now that winter has set in and grazing is over, Gypsy and Canela are once again playing their winter games. Canela has really gotten into it and has become a star at following directions to try different setups. He is finally picking up his halter and giving it to me. He could not even pick it up last winter, let alone give it to me.
Gypsy seems a little slower on his game this year, but he is a champion at fetching the halter. He stops in the one laneway to stand on his rug because he was asked to stand on his rug in previous trainings and still thinks he is supposed to do that.
After the games, when the footing is good on the driveway, I halter them up to take a walk on the driveway. Canela has finally found a haltering method that works for him. It starts with a game of just putting his nose in the halter. Then I say, "Put your nose in it all the way," and haltering is accomplished. Then we are off on a walk.
