On November 17, 2012 nine staff from Gananoque Intermediate and Secondary School traveled to Washington, DC to participate in "Move DC". The event, lead by The Invisible Children, of Kony 2012 fame, drew over 12,000 participants and commenced its final mobilization day with the Walter E. Washington Convention Center-hosted Global Summit on the LRA.
We were inspired to participate in this event as we had The Invisible Children visit GISS in October. Their message moved us and we wanted to show both IC and our students that it is important to get involved and back a cause to the fullest if you truly believe in it.
Our students had invited the Invisible Children to come to the school after doing a cross-curricular unit on child soldiers and, in particular, a novel study on Ishmael Beah's memoir "A Long Way Gone".
