Zooming is the most simple gesture on digital touch screens likes iPads and iPhones. These devices are complex, yet, these devices come without manuals. Zoom asks: what would it look like to ask the APple Geniuses to explain the simplest of motions to me? These silent videos document such clandestinely-filmed Genius Appointments. The Geniuses make many other gestures in order to explain this singular gestures in particular: they rub their thumbs together, they gesticulate vaguely, they point. Yet in the end we both touch the same surface, as if it were a skin, in an effort to make something larger, something open, or something move through what is supposed to be the most basic movements of modern technology.
