This work sample shows two excerpts (0:00 & 2:37) from a full evening
work (75 minutes) that addresses the 3.11 earthquake, tsunami, and
nuclear disaster in Northern Japan. It looks at humanity's
relationship with the oceans and how we cope in the face of
catastrophic environmental disasters.
These samples are an example of a performance work created
collaboratively by Navarrete and Kajiyama, based on a research trip to
the Tohoku disaster area in Japan. As with our proposed new work, The
Anastasio Project, the development of BAILOUT! began with research
into a social and environmental issue, and interviews with people
living in the midst of the issue. It was presented at Eastside Arts
Alliance, an organization of artists and community organizers of color
in the San Antonio district of East Oakland, one of the most diverse
districts in the US. We will workshop and present The Anastasio
Project at Eastside Arts Alliance in collaboration with the community
