Week 04 of 52
P52 : 04 - Expressions
My major goal is to learn technique's to the point they become second nature. Like playing musical scales. If I learn a musical scale and then sit in on a jam session with friends I can't say in the middle of the jam, "Wait a minute while watch a tutorial (again) on how to solo" Same thing with design. When I'm in the middle (or beginning) of a new project I don't want the fact I forgot how to do an awesome effect or technique to disrupt my workflow or rhythm.
One thing I almost always forget how to do is utilize the power of expressions. By using expressions correctly I drastically reduce my editing time as well as create more control and organization within my comps. As always I try to K.I.S.S. There are only two layers with keyframe animation in this video. The minute hand on the clock drives all the clock animation (including the radial wipe) The second layer that is keyframed is the word ROTATION. Then through a series of expressions I was able to vary the speed of linked layers mathematically. I sense most people don't like math. However the joy of creating and controlling your animation outweighs the pain in the brain when required to add and divide.
Each week I am reminding myself that everything I learn with computers is just helping to create an platform to express myself (or client of course) And it's often these no flashy or glossy technique's that allow us as mograph artists to create some fun stuff.
