One small step is a project that Stonewall Housing, the specialist LGBT housing specialist, has submitted to NESTA, which promotes innovation in the UK by helping people and organisations to bring great ideas to life by providing investments and grants.
One small step will help reduce the isolation of older LGBT people, many of whom would like help with what might seem to be small jobs, support when they visit a doctor or hospital, or help with IT problems. We have already developed an older LGBT people's group. If successful with the funding, we will use our contacts in the LGBT community to develop a network of volunteers who are willing to provide a few minutes or hours of their time to support older LGBT people. We will train them, and then develop an app so that when older LGBT people contact us, we can send out a request to our network of volunteers asking if they are able to help out. It might be accompanying someone on the bus, it could be changing a light bulb, or it might be helping them to use Skype.
One small step will have a big impact for hundreds of isolated older LGBT people.
