It’s not often you hear about a 91-year-old man and 77-year-old woman getting married. But that’s exactly what happened on an overcast, October morning to a Picton couple.
Russ Burrows, 91, and Shirley Sheady, 77, were married at the church at Lake on the Mountain in a ceremony surrounded by family and friends.
Burrows and Sheady first met 47 years ago. Burrows worked with then Sheady’s husband. They both had spouses back then and stayed friends. Only as recently as this past June and long after their first spouses had passed, they went on their first date to the Picton Legion for Sunday dinner. They said they felt like teenagers all over again. But love at this age has another benefit.
“When you get to the age we are now, it’s a lot more special because you know what you’ve got,” says Sheady.
