At the Arabic Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., parishioners are both Arab and Christian. Church Pastor Esper Ajaj said that people often assume he is Muslim because of his background and accent.
Many Arab Christians have left their homelands to escape religious persecution as well as to find better economic opportunities, often settling in the United States. Pastor Ajaj said that the reason to come to the United States is simple – freedom. “It’s a great commodity, freedom ... to say whatever you want, to believe whatever you want, and this is how God created man; he created him free.”
