STORIES FOR GROWTH AND TRANSFORMATION
Maryl Weatherburn, MA
Sharon Loeschen, LCSW
Maryl graduated in June of 2020 with a Master’s degree in Transformative Leadership and Spirituality from St. Paul University in Ottawa. In this presentation she will be drawing on work for this degree in her placements and in her major research paper.
Maryl received her MSW in 1980 and soon after getting her first job as a social worker, she recovered memories of childhood trauma which had been repressed and began a recovery journey. During this time of recovery, she worked part-time with a variety of marginalized populations and in 2000 returned to full-time work as a social worker. Around this time she encountered the work of Virginia Satir and trained in the field of expressive arts. She particularly enjoyed facilitating small groups and created several series of themed-workshops in response to client need. It was during this work, that the seed of an idea for further workshops began to emerge so she returned to school in order to pursue the idea of themed workshops.
Sharon is a clinical social worker, author and trainer. She has written, Choosing Your Life: Inspirational Stories of Transformation from the Streets of So. Central Los Angeles; The Satir Process, Enriching Your Relationship with Yourself and Others, and co-curated
the book of Virginia’s sayings, Simple But Profound.
