La Llorona is the Mexican tale of the weeping woman, a woman who, in some versions, is scorned by her lover and drowns her children in a river. In remorse, she is doomed to haunt the river ways and lakes of the Southwest searching for her lost children...or children to replace the ones she lost. While the story is most likely fictional, it does have many real parallels to modern day crimes of mothers killing their own children. I wanted to explore through video and sound the justifications and desperations that would head to such a crime. This film was shot in Fierro, a local ghosttown, and Bill Evans Lake and the Gila River near Silver City NM. Starring Gabrielle Bennet. The video was presented as a 3 channel video installation at New Media Nights at Western New Mexico University.
