Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity by Yayoi Kusama.
This is hands-down one of the coolest artworks I’ve ever experienced. And it is an experience, not just something you go and see.
Also known as the “infinity room” (she made a few others before this), the piece is actually a room (it looks like a large box from the outside). Inside, the walls and the ceiling are mirrors, and the floor is covered with enough water so that you can see the reflections of the lights. When you walk into the room, it’s dark except for all the lights hanging from the ceiling. But the effect is amazing because of the way the reflections reflect off each other to create this sense of infinity. I found it very relaxing.
They showed this at the Gagosian Gallery, but the exhibit is over. Hopefully they’ll show the piece somewhere else so that others can experience it.
