Red Bull Hill Chasers – Malaysia’s First Ever Dual Up Hill Bike Challenge
Jalan Ara in Bangsar was transformed into a race track where 32 cyclists – 16 bike enthusiasts and 16 elite level cycling athletes, compete against each other to find out the answer to the fierce debate between which bike discipline is best uphill. Red Bull Hill Chasers, created by Red Bull Blue & Silver (Product of Europe), was first held in Bristol, UK, witnessed 300 bike enthusiasts from all bike disciplines; BMX, mountain bike, road cycling and fixed-gear, sign up for the qualifying round which was held from 3-6pm, to stand a chance to race against the invited national and state cyclists in the head-to-head knockout rounds. 16 fastest amateur riders were chosen out of the top 200 riders, and continued to the knockout rounds, which halved the field, until two remained for the finals. In a twist of events, Muhamad Khuzairi, a mountain bike rider who achieved the fastest time in the qualifiers, then turned into elite, won the overall competition, defeating national cyclist Suhardi Hassan who placed second and fixie hero, Muhamad Hafiz who came in third place.
