Artist Konii C Burns has undergone a mammoth task, quite literally, in the creation of Atrabilious, a 20 metre long art work consisting of 27 random width panels, all 160cm in height. The work took over a year to produce and is currently being displayed as part of Inspired Lives currently on at the Dax Centre, Melbourne.
Konii has battled major depression throughout her life. During a major mental health battle that debilitated her to the point of several suicide attempts , Konii made a large rubbing of a fallen tree along the Murray River in 2007. As she was consumed by the illness and facing her own death, Konii was drawn to seeing the environment dying along side her.
It was in a time of severe drought and the rural environment was dying, as she didn't survive, she needed to create her story.
And so Atrabilious was born.
