I created this life-sized sculpture of "MIKAYLA" -- my beautiful little great-grandchild, when she was 2-years-old. (May 2012). I had to wait (im)patiently for my hand to heal from an operation, and finally, three weeks ago, I was able to make this casting of her! She is cast in hydrocal -- an 'alabaster-like' material. The dyes I used to color the mold (in order to be able to visually see the difference between the mold and the casting when separating them) the dyes "migrated" into the casting. The unplanned bluish-green tint and the finish is almost 'surreal' -- and looks just like the finish we see on many antique Roman and Greek statues. I decided to let this 'self-created' finish become the final patina!
