Webinar at UNGASS 2021: Leveraging the best tools to address environmental crime enabled by corruption

This side event at UNGASS 2021, hosted by France, focused on the links between corruption, environmental crimes, and the implementation of the UNCAC Resolution 8/12.

Corruption enables and facilitates a variety of crimes that are damaging to society and the economy, and undermine the rule of law and sustainable development. The criminal networks responsible for or benefiting from environmental crime use and rely on corruption for their business at every step of their supply chain, making it crucial that corruption is addressed. To illustrate the need to address corruption as a key enabler of environmental crime, experts will discuss how corruption systematically manifests itself across three environmental crimes - wildlife trafficking, illegal logging, illegal mining - and look at some of the tools available to combat it.
