Death's Messengers by Blak Leaf Studios (SARAH JOHNSON, KYLE KAUFMAN and SHAWN ANDERSEN).
DES 176: Introduction to Digital Narrative is a foundation level Entertainment Design class. Students are introduced to the principles of visual storytelling primarily through the process of creating storyboards and concepts for animations, films and comics.
The final project is to create an animatic or what’s often referred to as a “story reel” which is basically a series of storyboards set to time. These animatics are not meant to be polished animations but are a rough designs or first visual drafts of a film or animation. Animatics allows artists to make decisions based what’s working and what’s not and explore changes before time consuming animation takes place or expensive film crews are brought in during production.
Students had the option of adapting an existing story or writing their own. In this case, the group chose to adapt the Brothers Grimm fairytale, Death's Messengers.
