Performed by percussionist Diego Espinosa
Six Drawings by Randall is a short instrumental theatre piece for one performer and amplified balloon. I tried to capture in this composition the simultaneous and sometimes conflicting impressions I sensed from Julia Randall's work: whimsy, nostalgia, fear, longing, and eroticism. As the piece progresses though its six uninterrupted movements, the performer explores these impressions through a sound world related to squeaks, strokes, bubbles, and breath. Meanwhile, the six drawings that inspired the piece are projected behind the performer, providing a visual counterpoint to the music.
