This Sunday we will focus on the shortest description of Jesus' birth in the Bible - nine words, "And the Word became flesh and lived among us." There is great good news imbedded in the Word, or Divine, becoming flesh, or human. It means that God has absolutely no hesitation about jumping right into the middle of life, with all of its ups and downs, and being with us in the thick of it all. It means that we don't have to carry by ourselves the tough things that have happened to us. "The Word became flesh," Jesus stands with us, no matter what we have done or has been done to us. "The Word became flesh" - Jesus stands with us no matter what - which can make all the difference in how we live. "The Word became flesh" - this is extraordinarily good news; and that's what we'll talk about on this final Sunday of Advent.
