I love this guy! :)
Bart has produced over 3,500 banjos on his way to 4,000. He's got banjo building down to a science (10 hours from start to finish!). And, according to Bart his'self, its provided an excellent lifestyle for him and his family.
When he's not busy building banjos, Barts out ridin' his bike around the US... usually with cohort and fellow banjo builder, Mike Ramsey. Either that or he making wooden toys for underprivileged kids. And that's just one of his many (charity) interests. But he didn't wanna talk about 'em here.
Bart is a pretty amazing guy. And his banjos are widely recognized for setting a high standard in well-made, reasonably priced US instruments... that last (at least) one lifetime.
Beginners, intermediate players and experts all agree, Bart's banjos are mighty fine!
Recognized for their artistry, craftsmanship and performance, Bart Reiter is one of 38 select Builders included in the North American Banjo Builder Series. Filmed entirely on location by Craig Evans, there are four volumes in the DVD Series: Banjo Builders East of the Mississippi (Volume 1), Banjo Builders West of the Mississippi (Volume 2), Conversations with Banjo Historians (Volume 3) and More Conversations with North American Banjo Builders (Volume 4). Smithsonian Folkways has created the "Instrument Builder Collection" to permanently house the Series for posterity.
