Canon and Codex just hold a show in Bangkok on December 13, 2012. The most interesting products from this show was Canon C500 in full configuring with Codex Onboard S recorder in order to record 4K RAW file from the C500. The Canon C500 has 12 stops of dynamic range in Canon Log. The only way to record 4K RAW was to use external recorder such as Codex which was the perfect match.
I had a quick hands-on testing for the new Canon C500 with Codex Onboard S recorder to record 4K RAW at 24, 60 and 120 fps. The 512 GB SSD was so fast in reading and writing speed. It could record any frame rate from Canon's feed in the same card. I had recorded 24, 60 and 120 fps in the same media and could play back instantly. It was such an incredible recorder.
I brought this footage to Post Bangkok, one of a modern post facility in Thailand. They corrected the half vertical resolution to fit the same aspect ratio of 24 and 60 fps. Then rendered it out for me as ProRes 444. When I came home I used DaVinci Resolve Lite 9 to render out for web. Post Bangkok use Baselight for color grading. The system supports almost of digital format and do grading from any original RAW footage.
The 120 fps Half 4K RAW from C500 was not in full vertical resolution so it happened to be not so good. It looked like line skipping from the full sensor.
