From way back in 1992 as part of the Oddball Animation days, (where I worked with Anthony Lucas and Paul Gehrig), here is an short animation that was created for a kids show called Lift Off , produced by the Australian Children's Television Foundation (ACTF) and screened on ABC-TV for pre to early schoolers. Peter Clarke, well known for his work on ABC Radio interviewed young kids on a range of topics related to the theme of each episode. The segment was called 'Munchkids' and was intended to give the impression of a group of kids at school munching on their lunch and chewing the fat. He did an amazing job creating these narratives from the interviews, The animators were then given a cut track of about 3 minutes to animate to. The green frame at the start was to enable a wipe to the animation from the previous segment. The one I did here was shot on a 16mm Bolex and animated over a couple of months. The first couple of series provided a lot of work for independent animators and the more substantial animation companies at the time. I think they scaled back the animation for subsequent series and focused more strongly on the puppetry and live-action. It was a great pity as I thought that here was a chance for ongoing work for many Australian animators. The series only lasted a few years til 1995 ( I think!).
