A short paddle and damp picnic at Rudyard, Staffs between Christmas and New Year.
Putting in at the public jetty, it soon started to rain intermittently and after an all too brief paddle, lunch was demanded and a steep slippery woodland slope provided a not particularly suitable spot to pitch the tarp and fire up the Yukon firebox. Bangers and black pudding consumed, the kids and I wandered along the track to a derelict building by the sailing club house before returning, packing up and heading back.

Despite the rain, mud and assorted colds and sniffles, it was good to get some fresh air and Rudyard is a very pretty location which merits a further visit in better weather.
