Women in Art: an Illustrated Lecture from a Place of Experience
A little local history, a little sociology, a little Lacanian psychotherapy, a little stetl tribute. Bodies inside and out! Join Amy Karlinsky as she brings her eclectic style to a discussion of lived experience in the arts. She will blend contexts as a woman, art student, critic, historian, curator, administrator, teacher and mentor.
This illustrated lecture will feature dozens of transformative works of art by local women exploring fashion, goddesses, representation, domesticity and mimicry. Artists and art lovers can come together, be inspired and discuss the importance of art in the lives of women and communities.
Karlinsky’s gift for putting large ideas into context has shone in over a hundred articles on the visual arts. She was also an Instructor at the School of Art for nine years and has facilitated numerous discussions on the arts for provincial and local associations. Karlinsky curated Figure Ground (2005) Head Space (2008), Linus Woods and Red Green Show. She is a Board member of the Manitoba Arts Council and a former Chair of MAWA . Karlinsky was Keynote Speaker for the Manitoba Association of Art Educators in 2009. She enjoys collaborating.
