We are the Fringe Listening Committee of The Southern Ontario Monitoring Club (SOMC); a small private group of very avid SWLers ("short wave listeners") from various walks of life, whose monitoring posts are located in several regions spread out across southern Ontario Canada. We are all happily obsessed with the ongoing monitoring and recording of amateur radio transmissions worldwide, as well as regional utility transmissions and international broadcasters. Most of our members are equipped with the capability of creating high quality digital recordings of the transmissions they're monitoring, some of which are shared via the Internet with other members. Of late, we are particularly interested in expanding our ongoing monitoring and documentation of the more "marginal" aspects of amateur radio operation in North America. This includes the activities of both traditional radio "pirates", as well as the rather colourful cast of characters, who, although possessing a legitimately issued amateur radio license from either the U.S. or Canadian governments, choose to live at least part of their "radio life" beyond the boundaries of usual amateur radio practices.
