Artist's statement for exhibition:
"Every extension of mankind, especially technological extensions, has the effect of amputating or modifying some other extension... The extension of a technology like the automobile `amputates' the need for a highly developed walking culture, which in turn causes cities and countries to develop in different ways... We have become people who regularly praise all extensions, and minimize all amputations.”
- Marshall McLuhan
Waveforms that are normally imperceptible are made perceivable and draw our attention to an object's plight. Or, is it the object(s) manipulating us into extending that which is human through the insentient other? This exchange could also be seen as the technology or object's attempt to embrace the human body.
It is (in some cases) the presence and effect of waves in the exhibition that creates a higher state of awareness or consideration for the space the viewer is in.
A big thank you to the Roos family for allowing me to shoot 'Horsepower' on their estate.
