Soul and R&B singer Charlie McClendon made a name for himself playing at fraternity parties, old hangers and hotels with his band The Magnificents. His music and the music of his peers in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia was the first to integrate black and white audiences in the 1950s and 60s. Virginia Folklorist Jon Lohman interviews McClendon on the occasion of his 28th anniversary as minister of music at the Goodwill Baptist Church in Hampton and his 84th birthday on December 2, 2012.
