Test fly-through of a 3D model based on 18th century British philosopher Jeremy Bentham's design proposal for a perfect prison he called the "Panopticon". The model is a work in progress based on architectural drawings by Will Reveley which Bentham commissioned in 1791.

The Panopticon was to have a circular plan with un-obscured cells arranged around the edge so as to provide the prison inspector lodged in the center a panoramic view of all the prisoners. This would be combined with a design solution that would hide the inspector's aspect from the prisoners so that they couldn't tell which one of them he was looking at at any particular time. By instilling the impression of total surveillance this was intended to have psychological outcome on each prisoner that they internalize the function of surveillance and assume the burden of their own control.

The model was created in Sketchup and the fly-through rendered in Lumion (free edition). Going forward I hope to improve the model textures and interior. I'm also exploring the possibilities for providing interaction by including avatars and importing the model into a game engine.
