Sermon theme for January 6: This sermon is about the importance of having Jesus at the center not just of our life but also of the life of our congregation.
We find ourselves in the opening chapters of what the philosophers refer to as the post-Christian age. We can kick and scream at the changes and how they impact the church. We can lament the secularization of our society. We can long for the past to return. As I often joke, if the 1950’s ever come back, the Presbyterian Church is “locked and loaded” and ready to go. Or, we can decide that this is the reality in which we live. Now, how do we be the church of Jesus Christ in this changing context?
How does the La Cañada Presbyterian Church adapt to these new realities so we can continue to be a dynamic organization that makes a difference in Jesus’ name, not just for the people who associate with this congregation but also for people in need in Southern California and around the world? This is a dynamic place. How do we stay on that trajectory?
