Stacey and Drew shared their Same Day Edit (SDE) experience with their closest family and friends on a 10 x 6 foot screen just after midnight on December 29, 2012. This was the first time I watched one of our SDE’s within the crowd. I wanted to get their point of view during its showing in hopes to hear the audiences’ comments without knowing I was standing among them. This was pretty interesting because one of the things that kept coming out was.. “I can’t believe that just happened” and “OMG Stacey was that this morning?” It is a pretty surreal thing to see yourself on the big screen showing what just happened a number of hours before.. but for us it’s much more than just “showing” what happened. We say this all the time.. however we are just so interested in the details behind the couples we work with. I think one of the biggest misconceptions about our work is that we film and edit “recaps” or “montages” of the day.. We truly don’t feel that a montage or a recap is the proper way to put it. Rather than filming/editing all different sorts of footage and piecing it together to a song, the choices we make in order to create a certain feel are all motivated by something that represents and contributes to the story we are telling. Whether it’s the music we choose, the way we color the piece, the footage we choose to build the story and what we choose not to use all comes from somewhere. Some content may be more suitable for a SDE but will not have the same effect in one of our Shorts or Feature Films. So you might ask, what motivates us to shoot certain parts of the couples day. There is so much that goes on during a wedding and it all happens so quick.. sometimes too quick, but this is what keeps us on our toes. Everything we decide to shoot is very carefully thought out, mainly because we are constantly thinking about our couple’s timeline, all of the uncontrollable factors that filming off of a set present in addition to beginning to prep for the SDE. at some point during the day, you transition from filming mode to filming and editing…. and then finally 100% editing “in the juice”… Otherwise put, editing for a VERY tight timeline..(stressful to say the least) ...
