The lovely little town of Pisac in the Sacred Valley was one of our absolute favourite places in all of South America. Scenic, friendly and with wonderful day hikes. It's a perfect stop before heading further down the valley to see Machu Picchu.
We were fortunate enough to be visiting the town during their annual Carnival celebrations. On a hike up to see the ancient Citadel, we accidentally stumbled into a gathering of thousands of locals out in the country during a massive dance ritual. We were welcomed to come watch and it turned out to be one of the richest experiences of the whole trip.
