Arch+ Salon, Omer Arbel 24 June 2021 I A conversation between Omer Arbel and Anh-Linh Ngo.
Architecture and design gain social, cultural, ecological, and economic relevance through material interventions. Architecture and design therefore have to be thought of not as inert objects but as performative material systems. Omer Arbel's material-based design practice, understood as an investigation of intrinsic mechanical, physical, and chemical qualities of materials, is a unique resource that only a few have at their disposal. On the occasion of the launch of his first monograph, published by Phaidon, Omer Arbel and Anh-Linh Ngo, editor in chief of ARCH+, continued their conversation on the fluid borders of architecture, design, and research — a conversation they began in 2019 in preparation of the second issue of ARCH+ Design, published in parallel to Arbel's exhibition at Aedes in Berlin in 2020.
