Where are the sources of innovation? How much fat do we need in the system? What kills new businesses? Why do we have so many lawyers? How are firms evolving in the 21st century? These questions are linked. This lecture will explore innovation and creativity in economies, examine the changing role of research and development, consider the concept of 'survival of the fittest' in commerce and question the use of government subsidy for innovation.
