We begin a Winter/Spring series of messages on the Ten Commandments, starting with – you guessed it – the first commandment.
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.”
The first commandment, Exodus 20:2-3
“If God is God, and we claim to know him, then why the need for a command to put no other gods before him?”
“Is there anyone around who can explain God? Anyone smart enough to tell him what to do? Anyone who has done him such a huge favor that God has to ask his advice? Everything comes from him; Everything happens through him; Everything ends up in him. Always glory! Always praise! Yes. Yes. Yes.”
Apostle Paul, Romans 11:36
“Let me know myself, let me know thee,”
“Come, let's shout praises to GOD, raise the roof for the Rock who saved us! Let's march into his presence singing praises, lifting the rafters with our hymns! And why? Because GOD is the best, High King over all the gods… on your knees before God, who made us!... Drop everything and listen, listen as he speaks… 'Can't they keep their minds on God for five minutes?
Excerpts from Psalm 95, MSG
“Should we ever settle for anything less than the brightest vision of who God is, who we are, and what constitutes life now and everlasting?”
Singer and writer, Charlie Peacock
“Human beings ought to be in awe of God at least as much as a first year violin student is in awe of Itzhak Perlman”
Neal Plantinga, page 16, Engaging God’s World
“Live in me. Make your home in me just as I do in you…”
Jesus in John 15:4, MSG
