In 2008 Robert Lepage and Ex Machina first brought the grain silos of Quebec City’s port to life. The Image Mill has since become an iconic tradition in the city and remains the largest multimedia projection in the world. SAGA FILM was hired to make a live recording of the one-hour show.
From the enormous crowds to the dimensions of the projection surface (30 m by 600 m), this project held no shortage of technical and logistical challenges for our production team. To achieve a shot wide enough to capture the whole production on a surface of this size took 11 land-based cameras and one mounted on a helicopter! A five-minute edited clip now serves to promote the event worldwide, available as part of a souvenir DVD of Quebec City’s 400th anniversary. A full-length video version of the show is currently in post-production.
