Arboretum Performance, May, 2009.
The Moving Dharma Dance Lab consists of five dancers, male and female, ranging in age from early 20's to late 50's. Our backgrounds, training and stylistic strengths, include modern dance, contact improvisation, performance art, yoga, hip-hop, and theater work. Our pieces are improvisational scores, focused on authentically moving from awareness and curiosity brought to the present moment. We begin sessions with meditation and individual contemplative movement. From this ground we expand into relationship, where our play of interactions evoke and make connections on different planes: kinesthetic, imaginative, dramatic, archetypal, transcendent. We attend to the power of stillness throughout our pieces, and in some cases to spoken word as well. Our work is shared as an offering to support contemplative practice and the celebration of life.
