This is an excerpt from an interview with Dr. Charles Walcott, Professor Emeritus of Neurobiology and Behavior and Former Director of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology, who has been studying pigeon navigation since the 1960s.
Homing pigeons have the unique ability to find home from thousands of miles away, from places they have never been before. How does a pigeon find its way home? It's a question that has been asked and studied for half a century.
"It's a question," Dr. Walcott states, "to which we really still do not know the answer."
