After the success of our Solar Tree project, funded through this site and which taught 75 people the skills to build solar PV for themselves, we want to continue to deepen and broaden the impact of our DIY solar PV workshops.
Our workshops are designed to achieve the following in the participants:
A greater understanding of energy, its contexts and how it relates to needs & demand.
An understanding of the relatively small, but useful, contribution to energy needs solar panels can make.
A basic practical understanding & ability in order to build a DIY solar panel.
A basis for technical understanding of electrical circuits.
The confidence and enthusiasm to consider teaching others.
Enthusiastic participants are encouraged to:
Explore further ways to reduce their energy demand.
Build their own panels and teach others.
Take a further interest in energy, in current affairs and explore issues crucial for our energy future
For us, the single most important aspect of the workshops is to transfer knowledge and understanding of energy and the contexts in which we all access it.
Without this knowledge we believe there will be no empowerment, and no inspiration to build change to tackle energy poverty and inequality.
Our workshops are intended primarily for participants from low-income backgrounds. We want to increase the impact and reach of our workshop model, whilst improving our targeting of those groups most vulnerable to energy poverty.
To do this we want to run more workshops, and teach others to run them to. We need £1.5k in order to run five workshops, with ten people in each, that will transfer practical skills and inspire people to take their learning and understanding further.
Please help us achieve this target and continue to empower people where it matters: http://www.peoplefund.it/demand-energy-equality-diy-solar-pv-workshop-training/
